Can it work with eGPU via Thunderbolt 3 port ?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nYes. Different eGPU with different GPU installed may have different results for providing video outputs to ConnectPRO DP KVM switches. We had tested Razer Core X Aluminum External GPU<\/strong> with different GPU, such as\u00a0 AMD RX 5700 XT,<\/strong> for MacMini, MacBook Pro, MacBook Pro 16 without issues.\u00a0 \u00a0However, when tested with\u00a0 3440x1440 144hz monitor can only go up to 120hz<\/strong> (limitation of eGPU to Mac).\r\n
Why can\u2019t I set the monitor\u2019s refresh rate above 120 Hz when resolution is set at 4K?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nThis is because of the limitation of the processing power of the IC chip inside of the KVM switch. There\u2019s only so much bandwidth the IC chip can handle at once before it fails. The maximum data rate for DisplayPort 1.4 switching IC is 25.92 Gbit\/sec (on chip specs.). Setting the monitor at 4K above 120 Hz will require more data rate the IC chip is designed to handle. That\u2019ll cause the IC chip in the KVM switch to fail, and will cause blank or flickering screen on the monitor(s). Setting the monitor at 4K @ 120 Hz with the color chroma to 4:2:2 and the output color bit to 8 bit require bandwidth just under the limit that the IC chip can handle. When you connect the computer directly to the monitor, you\u2019re not going through the IC chip. So there\u2019s no limit on the maximum resolution and refresh rates you can achieve. But you cannot treat the setup the same way when connecting everything through the KVM switch. The IC chip\u2019s limitation will limit the maximum data rate you can achieve.\r\n\r\nAlso, you cannot assume the relationship between the computer and the monitor as 1 to 1 when you have your computers and monitors connected through the KVM switch. Why does my docking station work when directly connected to the monitor, but does not work when connected through the KVM switch?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nThis is because of the compatibility issue between the protocol of the firmware in the KVM switch and the protocol of the docking station. Some docking stations have a multi stream transport (MST) core. DisplayPort MST protocol cannot provide DisplayPort bus link train timing. But ConnectPRO\u2019s DisplayPort KVM switches will require full DisplayPort full bus link train timing in order to work correctly.\r\n\r\nWe recommend user to use non-MST based docking stations, such as CalDigit TS3+, CalDigit Mini-Dock, StarTech Mini-dock, etc. (Please check with ConnectPRO staff for the latest update on the compatible docking stations).\r\n
Why does my monitor stop showing videos when I connect my computers and monitors through the KVM switch?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nThe ConnectPRO displayport KVM switch cannot support every single configuration and electronic hardware that exists. We\u2019re still constantly improving our displayport KVM switches, and we\u2019re trying to allow a wider range of compatibility with various graphics cards and monitors with each firmware updates. Certain combinations of hardware are not compatible with the KVM switch; we suggest customers consult with our staff on the compatibility of the setup prior to placing an order.\r\n
Can the KVM switch support Multi Stream Transport (MST)?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nNo, the KVM switch will not support MST. Any docking stations or hubs with MST capability cannot be used with any KVM switch on the market. Any monitor with built in MST capability must have the MST function disabled prior to connecting it to the KVM switch. Because KVM switches will need a constant amount of bandwidth coming from the source to be able to work correctly. But the bandwidth will fluctuate from one moment to the other when it's going through a MST capable device. Which means the EDID information is constantly changing, and will cause the video on the monitor to randomly disappear.\r\n
Can the DisplayPort connector carry audio?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nYes, audio can pass through DisplayPort. You also have the option to use a separate audio cable with the KVM switch.\r\n

They will create too many end points for the DDM to process at once. This will cause the DDM to stop working correctly, and the keyboard and\/or mouse stop responding to any commands.\r\n\r\nWe recommend the user turn off\/disable the programmable functions and turn off the special driver. And then connect the keyboard and\/or mouse to the regular USB 3.0 port on the KVM switch instead.\r\n

Can I connect an external USB hub to the KVM switch?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nYes, but we recommend using small USB hubs only (4 USB ports or less). The major reason for that is when you switch channel inputs on the KVM switch, the external hub will create unstable \/ extremely ESD strike and will permanently damage the KVM switch. Even though the KVM switch has built-in port-level ESD protection circuit and chips on it, but the ESD strike + EMI and fast switching happens in a very short time interval. The KVM switch is protected by military-grade surge protection, but full lines of connected devices must meet the same military-grade standards as well. Even though our products meets the military-grade protection standards, but if the external power charging hubs are not protected by the same standards, then there will still be power protection issues to plug in USB charging hubs to the military-grade KVM switch. Forget About Your Experiences in Old DVI, HDMI or VGA KVM switches<\/strong>\r\nDisplayPort communicates differently from DVI and HDMI, which also are digital video formats. DVI and HDMI communicate with digital high-low signals, but DisplayPort communicates with micro in-line packages, similar to\u00a0 your Ethernet networks do.\r\n

For example, you may find that video source may be shifted while the new monitors or new systems initially connected to the KVM switches - the DisplayPort subsystem of the KVM switch is doing system re-sync communication.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t
Adjust Your Monitors and Connected Systems<\/strong>\r\n

Monitor:\u00a0 1. Disable Auto Selection of Video Sources,\u00a0 2.Disable Power Saving (if any) of Connected Monitor. max.resolution set to 4K 60hz<\/li>\r\n \t
Connected Systems: 1. Disable USB port power saving\/ hibernation. 2. Disable Display\/ Monitor shut-down, turn to \u201cnever\u201d shut down.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t
Use high-quality Cables or the DisplayPort Cables Included<\/strong>\r\n

In most cases, we include DisplayPort cables which we've tested and qualified for connecting between the systems and DP KVM switch.\r\nMake sure the DP cable between your monitor and the KVM switch are also qualified with DisplayPort 1.4 standard.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t
Installation Procedures (after you have done with the above list)<\/strong>\r\n

Before you connect any cables to the KVM switch: Connecting the shared devices (monitor, keyboard and mouse..etc) to the console of KVM switch first.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t
1. Connect video cable to your monitor and turn on your monitor\r\n2. Connect DisplayPort cables to your computer systems\r\n3. Connect USB cables (USB A-B) to your computer systems<\/li>\r\n \t
Connecting to KVM switch:<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\r\n \t
1. Connect the keyboard or mouse to DDM ports of the KVM switch\r\n2, Connect any other USB devices you want to share to the USB hub ports\r\n3.Connect the DisplayPort cables from the monitor to the console video port of the KVM switch<\/li>\r\n \t
4. Connect the DisplayPort cables from systems to the channel video port accordingly (system 1 to channel 1 video).<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

Completely restart your systems one channel at a time accordingly <\/strong>\r\n(Don\u2019t switch to other channel if the system is not fully boot up to the OS level ) , please wait !<\/strong>\r\n

When plugging the\u00a0 DisplayPort cables to your systems or to the KVM switch,\u00a0 FOR THE FIRST TIME<\/strong> it will take longer time for EDID handshaking (3~5 sec.).\u00a0 \u00a0Once it is done for the first time, it will no longer need to do the EDID handshaking while selecting\/ switching to between different systems.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t
The KVM switch does not support MST capable docking stations or hubs. If you have any docking stations or hubs with built in MST capability, then you cannot connect that device to the KVM switch.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t
Any monitor with MST capability must have the MST function disabled prior to connecting it to the KVM switch<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t
*Important* DO NOT use the USB ports on the KVM switch as a power charging hub for your electronic devices. We also DO NOT recommend using any external USB hubs with more than 4 USB ports to connect to the USB port on the KVM switch. Charging electronic devices or connect external USB hubs with more than 4 ports and draw too much power through the USB port, and cause the boards inside the KVM switch to burn. \u00a0EDID handshaking incompletely or missing\u00a0 caused blank monitor screen with some graphic\/video cards<\/strong> (specially with AMD<\/strong> ). firmware up grade will fix this issue (estimate firmware releasing in 2\/2020). current firmware version v.003.\u00a0 AMD video cards are not detected for simultaneously multi-video outputs by the DP KVM switch.\u00a0 (update: 4\/6\/2020, please update AMD new driver released in 3\/2020, the new driver did improve video issues with some monitors).<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t
When new monitor\/video source plug in, DP KVM switch will switch the video to another channel and back to the source channel - the KVM switch is trying to re-sync the EDID of both connected systems -\u00a0 It is NORMAL.<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0The DP KVM switch is trying to do DP video \"LINK Train<\/strong>\" with all the video ports and monitors connected to the DP KVM switch.\u00a0 \u00a0 DP \"Link Train\" is a special way to make our DP KVM switch can make the fast video switching within 1 sec. (some time 1.5 sec. , still the fastest DP switching in the world<\/strong> vs. normal\u00a0 8~10 sec. with the rest of the DP switches in the market). And it also provides\u00a0 Full-time EDID feeding<\/strong> to all connected systems, so when switching between channels, no windows layout will be resized or reset to default.<\/li>\r\n \t

\u00a0 **** When do you need to do \"DisplayPort Link Train \" or total \"reset your DP KVM switch\" :\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/strong><\/em>Any times, you change monitor or setup or adding devices to you setup.<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t

1. Switch to port #1 , pushing button #1.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\r\n \t
2. Unplug both USB from both systems and the external power supply plug<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\r\n \t
3. waiting for 30 sec. for the capacitors of the KVM switch totally out of power stored in the KVM system.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\r\n \t
4. plug in back the USB cables back to the KVM first,<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\r\n \t
5. plug in back the external power adapter.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\r\n \t
6. let the KVM do the total \"link-train\" (as you see even you are on port1, both screen will show the content of port#2 first - that is normal for DP link-train to have total picture of all systems connection status, so when you do the link-train initially, next time it can switch between two computers without re-do the EDID handshaking again - that is the reason why only our switch can do the fast DisplayPort switching with in 1+ sec.)<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\r\n \t

Can it work with eGPU via Thunderbolt 3 port ?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nYes. Different eGPU with different GPU installed may have different results for providing video outputs to ConnectPRO DP KVM switches. We had tested Razer Core X Aluminum External GPU<\/strong> with different GPU, such as\u00a0 AMD RX 5700 XT,<\/strong> for MacMini, MacBook Pro, MacBook Pro 16 without issues.\u00a0 \u00a0However, when tested with\u00a0 3440x1440 144hz monitor can only go up to 120hz<\/strong> (limitation of eGPU to Mac).\r\n
Why can\u2019t I set the monitor\u2019s refresh rate above 120 Hz when resolution is set at 4K?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nThis is because of the limitation of the processing power of the IC chip inside of the KVM switch. There\u2019s only so much bandwidth the IC chip can handle at once before it fails. The maximum data rate for DisplayPort 1.4 switching IC is 25.92 Gbit\/sec (on chip specs.). Setting the monitor at 4K above 120 Hz will require more data rate the IC chip is designed to handle. That\u2019ll cause the IC chip in the KVM switch to fail, and will cause blank or flickering screen on the monitor(s). Setting the monitor at 4K @ 120 Hz with the color chroma to 4:2:2 and the output color bit to 8 bit require bandwidth just under the limit that the IC chip can handle. When you connect the computer directly to the monitor, you\u2019re not going through the IC chip. So there\u2019s no limit on the maximum resolution and refresh rates you can achieve. But you cannot treat the setup the same way when connecting everything through the KVM switch. The IC chip\u2019s limitation will limit the maximum data rate you can achieve.\r\n\r\nAlso, you cannot assume the relationship between the computer and the monitor as 1 to 1 when you have your computers and monitors connected through the KVM switch. Why does my docking station work when directly connected to the monitor, but does not work when connected through the KVM switch?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nThis is because of the compatibility issue between the protocol of the firmware in the KVM switch and the protocol of the docking station. Some docking stations have a multi stream transport (MST) core. DisplayPort MST protocol cannot provide DisplayPort bus link train timing. But ConnectPRO\u2019s DisplayPort KVM switches will require full DisplayPort full bus link train timing in order to work correctly.\r\n\r\nWe recommend user to use non-MST based docking stations, such as CalDigit TS3+, CalDigit Mini-Dock, StarTech Mini-dock, etc. Dell D6000 docking stations can only work via the Display Link up to 4K @ 60Hz on one monitor, but can only work with Windows OS as D6000 does not have any driver capable of supporting Mac or Linux. (Please check with ConnectPRO staff for the latest update on the compatible docking stations).\r\n
Why does my monitor stop showing videos when I connect my computers and monitors through the KVM switch?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nThe ConnectPRO displayport KVM switch cannot support every single configuration and electronic hardware that exists. We\u2019re still constantly improving our displayport KVM switches, and we\u2019re trying to allow a wider range of compatibility with various graphics cards and monitors with each firmware updates. Certain combinations of hardware are not compatible with the KVM switch; we suggest customers consult with our staff on the compatibility of the setup prior to placing an order.\r\n
Can the KVM switch support Multi Stream Transport (MST)?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nNo, the KVM switch will not support MST. Any docking stations or hubs with MST capability cannot be used with any KVM switch on the market. Any monitor with built in MST capability must have the MST function disabled prior to connecting it to the KVM switch. Because KVM switches will need a constant amount of bandwidth coming from the source to be able to work correctly. But the bandwidth will fluctuate from one moment to the other when it's going through a MST capable device. Which means the EDID information is constantly changing, and will cause the video on the monitor to randomly disappear.\r\n
Can the DisplayPort connector carry audio?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nYes, audio can pass through DisplayPort. You also have the option to use a separate audio cable with the KVM switch.\r\n
Will the DisplayPort KVM switch be able to work with Thunderbolt 3 docking stations?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nYes, ConnectPRO\u2019s DisplayPort KVM switches can work with Thunderbolt 3 docking stations. Why won\u2019t my keyboard and\/or mouse work when I plug them into the DDM USB port on the KVM switch, but work correctly when I plug them into my computer?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nSome of the higher end keyboard and mouse on the market come with extra programmable functions or can be used in conjunction with a special driver or software. They will create too many end points for the DDM to process at once. This will cause the DDM to stop working correctly, and the keyboard and\/or mouse stop responding to any commands.\r\n\r\nWe recommend the user turn off\/disable the programmable functions and turn off the special driver. And then connect the keyboard and\/or mouse to the regular USB 3.0 port on the KVM switch instead.\r\n

Can I connect an external USB hub to the KVM switch?<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nYes, but we recommend using small USB hubs only (4 USB ports or less). The major reason for that is when you switch channel inputs on the KVM switch, the external hub will create unstable \/ extremely ESD strike and will permanently damage the KVM switch. Even though the KVM switch has built-in port-level ESD protection circuit and chips on it, but the ESD strike + EMI and fast switching happens in a very short time interval. The KVM switch is protected by military-grade surge protection, but full lines of connected devices must meet the same military-grade standards as well. Even though our products meets the military-grade protection standards, but if the external power charging hubs are not protected by the same standards, then there will still be power protection issues to plug in USB charging hubs to the military-grade KVM switch. Most of the USB charging hubs on the market ARE NOT designed for sharing, but for connecting to a single system only. They are not providing the switching protection by releasing the switching one port at a time, and equip with power management system built-in to the charging hubs.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n Forget About Your Experiences in Old DVI, HDMI or VGA KVM switches<\/strong>\r\nDisplayPort communicates differently from DVI and HDMI, which also are digital video formats. DVI and HDMI communicate with digital high-low signals, but DisplayPort communicates with micro in-line packages, similar to\u00a0 your Ethernet networks do.\r\n

For example, you may find that video source may be shifted while the new monitors or new systems initially connected to the KVM switches - the DisplayPort subsystem of the KVM switch is doing system re-sync communication.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t
Adjust Your Monitors and Connected Systems<\/strong>\r\n

Monitor:\u00a0 1. Disable Auto Selection of Video Sources,\u00a0 2.Disable Power Saving (if any) of Connected Monitor. max.resolution set to 4K 60hz<\/li>\r\n \t
Connected Systems: 1. Disable USB port power saving\/ hibernation. 2. Disable Display\/ Monitor shut-down, turn to \u201cnever\u201d shut down.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t
Use high-quality Cables or the DisplayPort Cables Included<\/strong>\r\n

In most cases, we include DisplayPort cables which we've tested and qualified for connecting between the systems and DP KVM switch.\r\nMake sure the DP cable between your monitor and the KVM switch are also qualified with DisplayPort 1.4 standard.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t
Installation Procedures (after you have done with the above list)<\/strong>\r\n

Before you connect any cables to the KVM switch: Connecting the shared devices (monitor, keyboard and mouse..etc) to the console of KVM switch first.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t
1. Connect video cable to your monitor and turn on your monitor\r\n2. Connect DisplayPort cables to your computer systems\r\n3. Connect USB cables (USB A-B) to your computer systems<\/li>\r\n \t
Connecting to KVM switch:<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\r\n \t
1. Connect the keyboard or mouse to DDM ports of the KVM switch\r\n2, Connect any other USB devices you want to share to the USB hub ports\r\n3.Connect the DisplayPort cables from the monitor to the console video port of the KVM switch<\/li>\r\n \t
4. Connect the DisplayPort cables from systems to the channel video port accordingly (system 1 to channel 1 video).<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

Completely restart your systems one channel at a time accordingly <\/strong>\r\n(Don\u2019t switch to other channel if the system is not fully boot up to the OS level ) , please wait !<\/strong>\r\n

When plugging the\u00a0 DisplayPort cables to your systems or to the KVM switch,\u00a0 FOR THE FIRST TIME<\/strong> it will take longer time for EDID handshaking (3~5 sec.).\u00a0 \u00a0Once it is done for the first time, it will no longer need to do the EDID handshaking while selecting\/ switching to between different systems.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t
The KVM switch does not support MST capable docking stations or hubs. If you have any docking stations or hubs with built in MST capability, then you cannot connect that device to the KVM switch.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t
Any monitor with MST capability must have the MST function disabled prior to connecting it to the KVM switch<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t
*Important* DO NOT use the USB ports on the KVM switch as a power charging hub for your electronic devices. We also DO NOT recommend using any external USB hubs with more than 4 USB ports to connect to the USB port on the KVM switch. Charging electronic devices or connect external USB hubs with more than 4 ports and draw too much power through the USB port, and cause the boards inside the KVM switch to burn.
