Can it work with eGPU via Thunderbolt 3 port ?
Yes. Different eGPU with different GPU installed may have different results for providing video outputs to ConnectPRO DP KVM switches. We had tested Razer Core X Aluminum External GPU with different GPU, such as AMD RX 5700 XT, for MacMini, MacBook Pro, MacBook Pro 16 without issues. However, when tested with 3440×1440 144hz monitor can only go up to 120hz (limitation of eGPU to Mac).
Why can’t I set the monitor’s refresh rate above 120 Hz when resolution is set at 4K?
This is because of the limitation of the processing power of the IC chip inside of the KVM switch. There’s only so much bandwidth the IC chip can handle at once before it fails. The maximum data rate for DisplayPort 1.4 switching IC is 25.92 Gbit/sec (on chip specs.). Setting the monitor at 4K above 120 Hz will require more data rate the IC chip is designed to handle. That’ll cause the IC chip in the KVM switch to fail, and will cause blank or flickering screen on the monitor(s). Setting the monitor at 4K @ 120 Hz with the color chroma to 4:2:2 and the output color bit to 8 bit require bandwidth just under the limit that the IC chip can handle. When you connect the computer directly to the monitor, you’re not going through the IC chip. So there’s no limit on the maximum resolution and refresh rates you can achieve. But you cannot treat the setup the same way when connecting everything through the KVM switch. The IC chip’s limitation will limit the maximum data rate you can achieve.
Also, you cannot assume the relationship between the computer and the monitor as 1 to 1 when you have your computers and monitors connected through the KVM switch. You’ll have to treat it as a one to multiple relationships.

Why does my docking station work when directly connected to the monitor, but does not work when connected through the KVM switch?
This is because of the compatibility issue between the protocol of the firmware in the KVM switch and the protocol of the docking station. Some docking stations have a multi stream transport (MST) core. DisplayPort MST protocol cannot provide DisplayPort bus link train timing. But ConnectPRO’s DisplayPort KVM switches will require full DisplayPort full bus link train timing in order to work correctly.
We recommend user to use non-MST based docking stations, such as CalDigit TS3+, CalDigit Mini-Dock, StarTech Mini-dock, etc. (Please check with ConnectPRO staff for the latest update on the compatible docking stations).
Why does my monitor stop showing videos when I connect my computers and monitors through the KVM switch?
The ConnectPRO displayport KVM switch cannot support every single configuration and electronic hardware that exists. We’re still constantly improving our displayport KVM switches, and we’re trying to allow a wider range of compatibility with various graphics cards and monitors with each firmware updates. Certain combinations of hardware are not compatible with the KVM switch; we suggest customers consult with our staff on the compatibility of the setup prior to placing an order.
Can the KVM switch support Multi Stream Transport (MST)?
No, the KVM switch will not support MST. Any docking stations or hubs with MST capability cannot be used with any KVM switch on the market. Any monitor with built in MST capability must have the MST function disabled prior to connecting it to the KVM switch. Because KVM switches will need a constant amount of bandwidth coming from the source to be able to work correctly. But the bandwidth will fluctuate from one moment to the other when it’s going through a MST capable device. Which means the EDID information is constantly changing, and will cause the video on the monitor to randomly disappear.
Can the DisplayPort connector carry audio?
Yes, audio can pass through DisplayPort. You also have the option to use a separate audio cable with the KVM switch.
Will the DisplayPort KVM switch be able to work with Thunderbolt 3 docking stations?
Yes, ConnectPRO’s DisplayPort KVM switches can work with Thunderbolt 3 docking stations. In fact, we’ve tested more than 20 different USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 docking stations since 2019. We recommend the CalDigit TS3+ docking station as our top choice.
** Note: CalDigit TB3 Plus can support up to two DisplayPort video outputs – one via the DisplayPort and the other via the Type-C port on it – a Type-C-to-DP converting cable is required. we recommend CAC-1557 type-C-to-DP bi-directional DP 1.4 converting cable.
Why won’t my keyboard and/or mouse work when I plug them into the DDM USB port on the KVM switch, but work correctly when I plug them into my computer?
Some of the higher end keyboard and mouse on the market come with extra programmable functions or can be used in conjunction with a special driver or software. They will create too many end points for the DDM to process at once. This will cause the DDM to stop working correctly, and the keyboard and/or mouse stop responding to any commands.
We recommend the user turn off/disable the programmable functions and turn off the special driver. And then connect the keyboard and/or mouse to the regular USB 3.0 port on the KVM switch instead.
Will the DisplayPort KVM switch work with Logitech receiver dongle?
Yes, it will. We’ve done some in-house testing to confirm.

Can I connect an external USB hub to the KVM switch?
Yes, but we recommend using small USB hubs only (4 USB ports or less). The major reason for that is when you switch channel inputs on the KVM switch, the external hub will create unstable / extremely ESD strike and will permanently damage the KVM switch. Even though the KVM switch has built-in port-level ESD protection circuit and chips on it, but the ESD strike + EMI and fast switching happens in a very short time interval. The KVM switch is protected by military-grade surge protection, but full lines of connected devices must meet the same military-grade standards as well. Even though our products meets the military-grade protection standards, but if the external power charging hubs are not protected by the same standards, then there will still be power protection issues to plug in USB charging hubs to the military-grade KVM switch. Most of the USB charging hubs on the market ARE NOT designed for sharing, but for connecting to a single system only. They are not providing the switching protection by releasing the switching one port at a time, and equip with power management system built-in to the charging hubs.
